Shavuos: Eat, Pray, Love Torah
June 10, 2016

BS"D

We are about to light our Shabbos candles here in Yerusahayim, welcoming in these next days of extra closeness to Hashem. I wanted to congratulate you all on the excitement you’ve brought to your homes through the delicious foods you’ve planned, and shopped for and cooked. Believe it or not, your hard work makes an important mitzvah of the day possible.

Rashi says this mitzvah is enjoying food and drink to celebrate the day of the Giving of the Torah. He explains that we rejoice with food and drink to demonstrate that the Torah is pleasurable and beneficial to the Jewish nation, not only to the soul, but to the body as well.

The Torah was not given to angels but to us, mortals who live in the physical world. We are tasked with using the physical to bring spiritual, to create a world so that Hashem can dwell among us. When we view our physical world as a vehicle to serve Hashem with joy, we can even do that with cheesecake.

Shabbat Shalom & Chag Samayach!

Thank you for subscribing, I truly enjoy having you in my kitchen with me!
